GET my LICENCE

HOW DO I GET MY MOTORCYCLE LICENCE?

*Please Remember that it is expected that for you to complete the course you will need to be able to demonstrate competency in all aspects of riding a motorcycle including specific bike control techniques and road safety tactics. Most people that are applying for the RE licence or the unrestricted licence have already done training with these skills.

If you haven't done any motorcycle training in Australia, we advise that you do 1:1 training session prior to attempting the course in order to develop and understand what will be required for you to be able to competently complete the course. Call or text us on 0403480407 for any further information.

  • Step 1: Want to ride, but not sure where to start?

The QRIDE Pre-learner is designed for people wanting to obtain their motorcycle licence whether or not you've ridden before. If your not sure if riding a motorcycle is for you or are a bit anxious to jump straight in with a group, we can run a 1:1 introductory session with you.

  • Step 2: Check Your Eligibility

To be eligible to obtain your learners permit, you're required to have held a non-learners drivers licence for more than 12 months. If you hold a QLD drivers licence you can check your eligibility here.

If you hold an interstate licence you will need to transfer it to Qld first (ensure you make them aware that you're looking at obtain your learners so they can back date your licence in their system.

  • Step 3 : Complete our Qride 2 Day Pre-Learner Course (2 days)

Book in and complete our 2 Day Pre-learner course, the course runs for 6.5hrs both days. The course runs you through practical and theoretical sessions building your skills and knowledge to prepare you for riding out on the road.

  • Step 4: Complete the 30 question motorcycle knowledge test

Login online here to complete the 30 question motorcycle knowledge test. Once completed and you pay a small fee to TMR you will automatically get your new licence emailed to you. (Expect your new card in the mail within 2 weeks)

  • Step 5: Complete The Hazard Perception test (HPT) at TMR

Once you receive your new card in the mail you'll be able to login here and complete the HPT. This is required to be done prior to completing the 1 Day RE upgrade course

  • Step 6: Develop your riding skills/experience

You have to hold your learners for a 'minimum' of 90 days, this time is for you to get some all round experience on the bike, developing the skills and road sense you learnt in the pre-learner course. Whilst doing this you're required to have a supervisor with you. If you don't have a bike to ride or don't know anyone with a motorcycle licence, Motorcycle Masters offers 1:1 or group training for those who want to develop quickly.

  • Step 7: Complete the 1 Day RE upgrade course

After completing the HPT, minimum 90 day period and when you feel confident that you can ride anywhere on the Gold Coast. Book in for the 1 Day RE Upgrade course. Once you complete this course and upgrade your licence, there will be no more need to have a supervisor with you when riding.

  • Step 8: Riding on your RE (Restricted) Licence

Whilst on a RE licence you're only permitted to ride a LAMS approved motorcycle. For the first 12 months you're not able to take a pillion passenger. After 12 months you can, if you're wanting to do that but are feeling unsure about it Motorcycle Masters run pillion training for the rider and pillion.

  • Step 9: Complete the 1/2 Day R class course (Unrestricted Licence)

After holding your open or provisional RE licence for 2 years you are then eligible to upgrade to your unrestricted licence. So if you're looking at riding a non lams motorcycle then this is the course you'll need to do. It's a 1/2 Day course running for 4 hours refreshing your bike control and on road skills.

  • Step 10: Upgrade Your Licence Online Or At A TMR Office

Once marked competent you may now upgrade your licence online, or visit a TMR office. Once processed you are fully Licenced.

Congratulations on getting your motorcycle license! Having the freedom to ride a motorcycle can be an exciting and exhilarating experience. Here are a few tips to enjoy your newfound freedom safely:

1. Start with familiar routes: As a new rider, it's best to start by riding on familiar roads and routes. Gradually increase the complexity of your rides as you gain more confidence and experience.

2. Practice regularly: Regular practice is key to improving your riding skills. Find an empty parking lot or a quiet area where you can practice basic maneuvers like turning, braking, and accelerating. This will help you become more comfortable and confident on your motorcycle.

3. Wear proper safety gear: Always wear the appropriate safety gear, including a helmet, gloves, jacket, pants, and boots. This gear will offer protection in case of any unforeseen accidents or falls.

4. Ride defensively: Be aware of your surroundings and anticipate potential hazards. Stay focused on the road and always obey traffic laws. Assume that other motorists may not see you, and give yourself plenty of space to maneuver and react to any unexpected situations.

5. Start with shorter rides: In the beginning, try to take shorter rides to get used to the feeling of riding and build up stamina. Gradually increase the duration and distance of your rides as you become more comfortable and confident.

6. Ride with experienced riders: Riding with more experienced riders can be a great way to learn and improve your skills. They can provide guidance, share tips, and help you navigate various riding situations.

7. Avoid riding under the influence: Never ride your motorcycle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substances that impair your judgment and reaction time. Riding while impaired can be extremely dangerous and increase your risk of accidents.
