Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • Do I need to hold a Qld drivers’ licence to get a motorcycle licence

Yes in Qld your need to have held a driver’s licence for more than 12 months to be eligible to obtain a motorcycle learners permit. That could be an interstate or overseas driver’s licence.

  • How old do I have to be to get a motorcycle licence?

You have to be at least 18 years old

  • I hold an overseas motorcycle licence, Can I get a Qld motorcycle licence?

Yes you can convert your overseas motorcycle licence to a Qld licence. Firstly you will need to have  a CRN (customer reference number) from TMR. There are some countries that TMR recognise that if you have held a full motorcycle licence that you can apply for a full licence here.

If you hold a licence from one of these countries your only required to complete the ½ Day R class course.  If your licence is not on this list you will first need to complete the 1 Day RE course, which you will then obtain a Restricted  Motorcycle Licence (Class RE) if you have held your overseas licence for more than two years and if you want to hold an unrestricted licence so you can ride any motorcycle then you need to prove to TMR that you have and they will issue you a declaration that you are eligible to obtain the Class R licence, bring that to us and complete the ½ Day R class licence and you will then be issued an Unrestricted motorcycle licence

*Please remember that it is expected that for you to complete the course you will need to be able to demonstrate competency in all aspects of riding a motorcycle including specific bike control techniques and road safety tactics. Most people that are applying for the RE licence or the unrestricted licence have already done training with these skills.

If you haven't done any motorcycle training in Australia, we advise that you do 1:1 training session prior to attempting the course in order to develop and understand what will be required for you to be able to competently complete the course. • What is the hazard perception test?

Before completing the 1 Day RE upgrade course to get off your learners you will need to complete the hazard perception test online through TMR. The Hazard perception test checks whether you can recognise potentially dangerous situations or hazards and respond to them safely. The following is the link to the online  motorcycle hazard perception test.

There are 25 computer-generated videos in the hazard perception test. You'll be asked to show how you would react to the situations in the videos. The situations you will be tested on are based on the most challenging for novice riders.

We recommend taking the test on a laptop or desktop computer, due to the bigger screen. If you are doing the test on your mobile, you will need to be able to clearly see the screen. Note: you won’t be able to complete this until you receive your new Licence card in the mail after obtaining your learner’s permit.
